6x12.5 Antique Afshar Rug Runner

:: This striking rug is a unique fusion of tribal and urban design traditions, reflecting a Lori or Afshar origin with prominent Bakhtiari motifs and a central Kashan-inspired scene known as the "Throning of Nader Shah." The rug features a coarse weave and high-quality wool with some cotton foundation, indicative of early 20th-century transitional craftsmanship. At its heart is an elaborate royal enthronement tableau, bordered by rows of stylized floral medallions in a symmetrical Bakhtiari layout. The rug's hand-knotted artistry includes a Persian inscription reading The Enthronement of Nader Shah Afshar, emphasizing its historical narrative. Colors and shades include: Dark indigo blue, burgundy red, pistachio green, ivory, blush pink, saffron yellow, cobalt blue, rose, copper brown, and more. Condition notes: Areas of pile, knot heads and foundation. Tatter to sides and ends. Multiple holes throughout the carpet - perhaps 3 dozen approximately pencil eraser size to quarter sized, with a few areas of localized darning and a section on the edge approximately 1.5" x 3" needing repair / restoration. One end measures 12' whereas the opposing measures 12'5". This variation is within normal margins for hand knotted rugs of this type, age, and size.
