Old New House® :: Antique + vintage home décor to take you places

From the owners of ONH

Thank you for visiting and exploring our flagship website Old New House® (ONH), a New York based, family-owned companyWe are Melissa + Dave, curators and creators behind Old New House with a strong passion for special antique, vintage and handmade items. We opened our first store on Etsy in 2011. We specialize in textiles: old hand knotted carpets of all vintages and types, fine woven throws in addition to wall art, hand made original pillows, and furniture. This fall 2016, we brought our online store to to the street with a brick-and-mortar retail shop / headquarters in Katonah, a hamlet of Bedford NY in Westchester County. We invite you to visit our town and welcome you to our exciting new shop! If you have specific items of interest, we are happy to have them ready for your viewing with advance notice!

We take great pride when it comes to featuring select small and area sized antique and vintage rugs venerable for high decorative value, ageless appeal and desirable aesthetic. Authenticity, genuine age and period correct décor are important to us, as are texture and colors. Inspired floral and geometric vintage Persian rugs with modern classic motifs are a shop favorite, as are rugs from Turkey, Near, Mid and Far East. We source and carry rare and collectible rugs from antiquities to the 19th century, as well as outworn, distressed and faded carpets such as our vintage Oushak rugs and even the amazing texture of Moroccan carpets from Kilims to Berbers. We love small and versatile sized older woven examples with a story: this brings our selection of fine carpets up through and including pieces from the 19th and mid 20th century. Regardless of style, we feel a strong connection between the timeless and ancient artisan craft of hand knotted Oriental Rugs. In our offering choice and select examples of rugs in classic and olden appeal, we know you will find our fine selection and attention to detail among the most discerning to be found. We are highly selective when maintaining and curating a fine collection of hand knotted carpets for our inventory. Ultimately we aim to convey the spirit behind each carpet as accurately as possible before it arrives in your home. Enjoy a recent launch of old carpets and new technology with our 360 degree virtual tour of many rugs in the shop:

Creating a hand woven rug is an intimate and sophisticated process. A weaver may spend months, sometimes years to complete an area rug or large carpet. Our goal is to consistently carry a fine representation from many rug weaving regions and countries. We showcase rugs from well appreciated carpet weaving areas often historically known for timeless and classic period specific designs, enduring qualities, each with distinct style and motifs. Among our favorites to have in the shop include Caucasian rugs, Persian rugs (Bijar rugs, Kerman rugs, Sarouk rugs, Tabriz rugs and more), as well as Anatolian rugs. More recently we have expanded our new additions to encompass genuine Oushak rugs and Moroccan carpets from the 1940's, 50's and 60's vintages. Whether your furnishings reflect mid-century modern and tribal fusion, traditional or other, a fine hand knotted rug reflects the soul of the room. Old rugs with beautiful designs, colors, textures and superb value can always be found in our rug section. There, you will find our top picks - we are committed to offering our favorite in unique and decorative rugs. Our focus is hand knotted, cut-pile rugs: Small mat size rugs 2'x3', 3'x4', 3'x5' throw rugs through area rug sizes 8'x10' and even 9'x12' up to 15'x30' palace sizes by request. We also carry a selection of rug runners generally double in length than width, from 2'x4', 3'x6' all the way up to kelleh or gallery runner sizes of 4', 5' wide to 12' long or greater. This size or small area rug sizes are idea for a hallway, vestibule or foyer. Whether searching for an accent entryway rug, runner or a large, unusual size carpet, just let us know and we can provide gorgeous options for your interior design project. Our inventory is boundless when it comes to hand knotted Oriental rugs of natural materials (wool, cotton, silk or a blend).

The ONH wall art section is no exception of our commitment to you. In our shop you will also find rare, unique and hard-to-find vintage pull down maps and school charts, as well as authentic artwork of fine line and brilliant colors.  We love decorative ephemera accent pieces, and we feel you will find these to be wonderful accents for your walls too.  Among our favorites in the shop include botanical art, where many of the items offered are true watercolor paintings: perfect aesthetic and colors for the spring.

Lastly, every shipment made through Old New House is a networked process of care.  We are an environmentally mindful company considering future generations. Every step of our business we schedule efficiently: errands and drop-offs are performed in fuel efficient vehicles. Each package shipped is carefully wrapped using minimal new materials. We do our best to mitigate our carbon footprint by actively participating in carbon neutral programs. We make efforts to support green friendly and local companies. While these aspects are part of our business process, they are also part of our commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle in our daily lives.

Be on the lookout for new arrivals, where you will find a mix of many products we add on a regular basis, from rugs to old-world and vintage inspired original artwork series as well as furniture created by Melissa and Dave. A new product we are excited to offer and complement your antique and vintage rug selection: green, eco-friendly rug pad. All natural rubber and jute underlining for your carpet. Every pad we sell also represents a newly planted tree!

We're thrilled to be voted Best of Westchester® 2015 for rugs. Hope you enjoy our website. For in-person viewing, we're a 1 minute walk from the Katonah train station, convenient to Manhattan and tri-state residents here in Westchester, New York.
