:: An elaborate roundel starburst center floral medallion adorned by minor trefoil finials with corner spandrels inwardly directed and partially reciprocating the relief of the main medallion. Main border in a flowing arabesque vine and palmette design motif. For rugs of this type, smaller examples such as this are truly gems, especially when they survive. Without something to provide a sense of scale, it can easily be mistaken for a much larger carpet. The outer minor border is somewhat of a twist on traditional mapping in that typically it would reciprocate the inner minor but in this instance there is an extremely intricate checkered rendering which flows between compatible design elements and vines with very unique weaver nuances. In some areas it looks like a sensible design while in other areas it flows into something more regimented and then back again. Colors and shades include: Antique ivory, cochineal red, navy blue, beige, sand, blush, pink, cream, dusty gold, and more. Condition notes: Areas of pile, knot heads and foundation. Tatter to sides and ends. Minor loss to both ends. Scattered repairs in varying degrees of expertise.
