3x4 Vintage Red Bijar Rug

:: Persian Bijar conservative vintage 1950s. Very durable, very dense carpet. If you are searching for the ideal entryway rug, this is an extremely good candidate. The process of weaving a hand knotted rug typically goes in stages of tying a row of knots, laying wefts, packing the wefts, then laying another row of knots. The weavers of Bijar are known to pack the wefts of their carpets very hard. To further the process, many Bijar weavers also wet the wool a bit during the weaving process to aid in consolidating fibers. This enables tight compress in packing wefts and knotting. When wet, the fibers retain the tight form until dry, which enables greater wool density in a tighter area. In conjunction with fine wool this rug and others of its type will surely last decades, lifetimes, generations perhaps more. Wonderful cherry red field, medium blue, light blue, shades of gold, burgundy, green, ivory and more. Classic Bijar medallion with slightly asymmetric lanterns (note filled medium blue shading in one, and outline gold shade in the other). Very good condition with wear confined to center of fringe on either end. Recently professionally cleaned and ready for use in home. Many years of enjoyment to come with this rug!
