5.5x8 Antique Soumac Design Carpet

:: A Soumac rug from the first quarter of the 20th century shows a broad red ground with two large central geometric medallions flanked by diamond lozenges and star-like medallions. The field is enlivened with small floral and stylized motifs, while the border is a series of stepped geometric guards leading to a repeating zigzag and small square motif. The overall composition is structured, graphic and distinctly tribal in character. Outer minor border in a reciprocating wave design motif, with innermost main field overlay in a reciprocating minor pawn design motif. Colors and shades include: Madder root red, sky blue, chocolate brown, ivory, sage green, ochre, beige, yellow, and more Condition notes: Weave across in mostly original condition. Most of the original side cord selvages are intact or restored. Fully secured sides and ends. Many localized areas of repairs and darning scattered throughout. Ideally suited for a low to moderate traffic area deeper inside the home. Recently professionally cleaned ready for in-home use!
