5x6.5 Vintage Lilihan Rug

:: A Lilihan carpet from the early second quarter of the 20th century shows a richly patterned field of scrolling vines and palmettes in a deep red ground, with a broad navy and ivory border carrying repeating floral and arabesque motifs. The Armenian-woven character is evident in the lively, slightly asymmetrical rendering and the period-correct painted quality of the design. The composition is framed by a multi-register border that echoes the fields floral vocabulary. Colors and shades include: Deep red, navy blue, indigo, saffron yellow, teal, ivory, muted pink, platinum and more Condition notes: Areas of high and low pile height. Most of the original side cord selvages are intact or restored. Fully secured sides and ends. Light reduction to one end. Light scattered white knots across the weaving.
