Antique Framed Embroidered Silk and Linen Textile Pouch
Antique Framed Embroidered Silk and Linen Textile Pouch Product Description and Details
:: A finely hand-embroidered textile pouch circa 1920, likely originating from Northwest India or Kashmir, executed in traditional chain stitch (aari work) using silk thread on an older linen or linen-blend ground. Constructed as a drawstring pouch with silk cord ties and pom-pom embellishments, the piece retains signs of thoughtful reuse, including a red interior lining, likely added later in the piece's life, and a handwritten “16” marking that has naturally transferred through the fabric over time, possibly an inventory or workshop notation. Decorated with repeating stylized motifs within geometric floral borders, rendered in warm tones of rust, saffron, coral, and soft ivory, the silk embroidery lends subtle luster and refined texture throughout. Originally intended for personal or household storage, possibly as part of a dowry or trousseau, the piece has since been framed. Kindly note the textile backing within the frame may differ slightly from that photographed. Size measures: 14.5" x 10.25" x .5".
