3x3.5 Antique Fine Silk Mohtashem Kashan Square Rug

:: A Mohtashem Kashan from 1870 shows an all-over floral field with palmettes and arabesques set against a rich ground, the composition enlivened by cloudband design elements. The field is framed by a multi-part border with repeating floral and palmette motifs, and the palette carries lovely powder blues and dramatic rich tones throughout. The weaving displays abrashes consistent with age and an extraordinarily unusual smaller size and proportions. Colors and shades include: Aubergine, antique ivory, powder blue, deep mauve Condition notes: Even wear across to knot heads with faint foundation showing through. Mostly secure sides and ends. A couple of localized areas of light blemishes and tinting scattered across the weaving, commensurate with type and age. Multiple areas of mended splits and expert restoration to one end. Possible enhancement to color fade in a few spot areas, edge stiffness along the sides. Ideally suited as a wall hanging or display piece. Multiple bare spots along selvage.
