8.5x12 Vintage Bijar Carpet

:: A late second quarter 20th century Bijar shows a richly patterned field dominated by a central medallion with a dense, interlaced floral and geometric motif, framed by a broad red ground that carries scrolling vines and blossoms with stylized mythological creatures scattered throughout. The corners are anchored by peacock stylized inwardly directed palmettes set against a deep blue field, while the main border is a repeating geometric band with floral sprays. The design reads as vak-vak with gem tone shades throughout. Colors and shades include: Ruby red, sapphire blue, jade green, saffron yellow, ivory, powder blue, ruby red grapefruit and more. Condition notes: Mostly even short pile across. Most of the original side cord selvages are intact or restored. Tatter to ends. A few localized areas of repairs in varying degrees of expertise. Scattered white knots visible across the weaving. The rug exhibits some variation in contour along the edges and or ends. Based on age and condition this item will need to ship rolled straight.
