3x5 Antique Caucasian Rug

:: Rare, and possibly early antique, Caucasian carpet with unusual green field in varying degrees of saturation, stretching from a light forest green to a dark teal green. Wide banded border in conjunction other technical characteristics suggests mid-19th century. Fantastic contrast and artistic merit throughout. Colors and shades include: Pale mallard green, teal green, navy blue, cinnabar red, sky blue, antique ivory, faded saffron yellow, and more.Condition notes: Hard isolated areas of wear throughout. At some point the carpet had been brought back together three quarters the width with a professionally performed seam. Professionally re-woven/restored areas likely dating to the 1920's, mainly found in the outer minor border. Other areas of repair in varying degrees of expertise. Tatter throughout. Recently professionally cleaned ready for in-home use! Many years of enjoyment to come with this hand knotted Caucasian rug made in the Caucasus region circa 1870's vintage.
